Thrilling, magical, and fascinating, African safaris are nothing less than jaw-dropping. These authentic endeavors are beyond compare, and allow you the privilege of experiencing natural elements of the wild just feet (or inches) away. Fundamentally a true “culture shock”, game safaris encapsulate the beauty of Africa while initiating a level of intensity.
Tanzania’s Overnight Safari Experience
During a game safari, a group of up to 6 people embark on an adventure of a lifetime, traveling through Africa’s natural landscape where animals of the wild call home. Safari game drives are the best ways to safely observe animals in their natural habitat, while also enjoying the geographically diverse terrain of this beautiful continent. Game safaris are led by an experienced expert to ensure safety and education on wildlife species.
Taking a safari overnight is an unreal experience. During this prime-time of night, animals are in their more natural, alert state – especially those that are nocturnal and only wander into the open after the sun goes down. A few of the animal types you would normally see on an overnight safari adventure are zebras, hippos, giraffes, wildebeest, rhinos, and even leopards. You may even witness a brawl of survival, as after dark hours are often the period when predators meander the area, stalking fearsome prey – just like a real life National Geographic documentary!
Where can I find an overnight safari?
Tour companies, organizations, and lodges often host overnight safaris. Taasa Lodge is well-known for its invigorating and transcendent night drives, which are led by experienced Maasai guides in an open sided land cruiser. During this journey, the Maasai guide uses special trackers to monitor activity and potential predators – an electrifying experience in itself. During the entire event, enjoy the freeing, open land and shockingly beautiful star-filled skies, guaranteed to be one of the most peaceful spectacles.
Taasa lodge also offers some other kinds of safaris, including walking safaris and balloon safaris, both of which offer their own unique characteristics. For example, during a walking safari groups can learn how to start a fire in the wild, as well as observe natural wildlife during the daytime.
Daytime Safaris
Daytime safaris differ from overnight game drives in several ways, but they share the similarity of being able to see wildlife roam the Earth. Daytime safaris are most likely to begin in the early morning, and last until the evening with breaks in between. Morning and dusk are times when animals are most active throughout the day, and enjoy venturing out into the landscape. Most daytime safaris will provide several meals and snacks, and break times for guests to relax and enjoy amenities at their lodge or campsite.
How to Prepare for A Safari in Africa
Seasons and Attire
While it may just seem as simple as packing in a vehicle and riding away into the wilderness, we strongly recommend changing from your evening attire into something more safari-centric. There is no strict dress code or guidelines on what to wear on a safari, as long as you choose a getup that is comfortable for long periods of time, and minimalistic if possible. It’s important to dress accordingly to the season you’re visiting in, which would be either the wet or dry seasons. During overnight safaris, the temperature will likely be cooler than daytime hours, which means a light jacket or sweatshirt are good choices. Comfortable and flexible pants or shorts that you’re able to move around freely in are exceptional as well, as you will be sitting and shifting positions frequently during the event. Unexpected rain showers may occur as well, which means that water-resistant clothing is the best bet. Sandals and boots are great for daytime safaris or bush walks, while breathable sneakers are best for overnight. Quick-dry shirts, athletic socks and undergarments, and hats are also recommended.

Gear
Even though you’ll be taking breaks for drinks and snacks during a safari, it’s still pertinent that you prepare with the right gear. Collapsible water bottles, thermoses, and backpacks are handy to use during the adventure. A good quality camera with waterproof bag and binoculars are also significant items to bring along. Note that plastic bags and other products containing polythene are banned in Rwanda and Kenya, so avoid using these materials if traveling to these countries.

Visiting Africa can be a lifechanging experience, and nothing can top a true African safari. Safaris offer immense culture and intense experiences that you can reflect on for years ahead. With the right amount of preparation and knowledge beforehand, you’ll be set and ready to enjoy the experience to the fullest!
